Center of Competence of dldp in waste management participated in the Final Conference of the Project Solid Waste Management in cross-border rural and coast areas of South Eastern European Region – 21st – 22nd June 2016, Struga, Macedonia
dldp`s center of competence in waste management participated in the final conference of the project Solid Waste Management in cross-border rural and coast areas of South Eastern European Region, held in Struga, Macedonia, on 21 and 22 June 2016.
The project is supported by GIZ ORF MMS.
The Conference brought together over 130 beneficiaries coming from local and national level, from 7 pilot countries from the Western Balkans. Albania was represented by members of Albanian Association of Municipalities [AAM], representatives from partner LGUs beneficiaries of the project from Shkodra, Lezha, Vau i Dejës and experts from dldp Center of Competence from partner LGUs of Dibër, Pukë, Mat, Klos, Kukës, Mirditë, Malësi e Madhe and Shijak.
The Conference aimed to discuss the assessments conducted of the cross-border adverse environmental and economic impact in the pilot regions; developed models for integrated solid waste management; conducted pilot measures in the targeted municipalities and provided policy recommendations.
In three breakout sessions, participants discussed three important topics: rural waste collection; recycling; and local planning and regulations. Deputy Mayor of Shkodra presented the experience and results of public-private partnership in recycling and the challenging of Shkodra Municipality to expand and improve the service in the new administrative territory after the TAR implementation; while the impact in touristic areas of the good local waste planning was presented by Deputy Mayor of Lezha.
Municipalities of Shkodra, Lezha and Vau i Dejës signed the Memorandum of Cooperation with NALAS, together with other municipalities involved in the project “Improvement of Solid Waste Management in Rural and Coastal Areas”.
