The municipality of Puka honours Swiss Ambassador, Christoph Graf with the “The Symbol of the City”
On March 25th, Swiss Ambassador, Sh. T. Christoph Graf paid a visit to Puka, to learn more closely the inter-communal scheme of waste management and to participate in the meeting of Coordination Committee organised from Dldp, attended by over 30 Mayors of municipalities and communes from Qarks of Shkodra, Lezha, Kukës, Dibra and Durrës.
The visit started in the commune of Luf-Qerret, where its Mayor, Rrok Dodaj presented the conditions and the challenges the commune has to face. Dldp programme has introduced the inter-communal scheme for waste management which encourages the communes to collaborate for a better waste management in this region. The visit continued to the landfilled of Puka together with the Mayor and the municipality staff. The ambassador Graf attended the Coordination meeting where Mayors of communes and municipalities discussed the possibilities and manners to accelerate the process of decentralisation, and in the new context of territorial reform, how to position and utilise this reform to improve services to citizens. The discussion also focused on the hard work to stop the illegal dumping of waste and creating the conditions for a better use of landfills.
Dldp has introduced new schemes for waste collection and composting in communities that could be also expanded and adapted in other municipalities and communes.
The closing part of the visit concluded with a formal reception at Hotel Puka, where the Mayor of Puka. Mr Beqir Arifaj, honoured the Swiss Ambassador, Mr Graf with the “The Symbol of the City”. The Mayor expressed the gratitude for the great contribution of Swiss government and continuous efforts for the region’s development.
The ambassador Graf thanked the mayor, Mr Arifaj for the precious gift on behalf of the Swiss people, pointing the Swiss government concern that even remote areas should receive an adequate attention and support.
