Deputy Minister Ifti: Composting, safe way to solve the problem of organic waste

Dldp held a three-day training (30 January – 1 February) with farmers in Dajçi commune about composting of organic waste. Training, part of the project which Milieukontakt Albania is implementing within dldp, aimed at increasing the capacities and knowledge of farmers for composting processes. Through the combination of theoretical and practical sessions, the participants were introduced to the process of composting (composting steps), factors affecting composting, composting methods, tips for a successful composting etc.
During the first training session, participants were greeted by the Deputy Minister of Environment Mrs.OlijanaIfti and the Mayor of Dajç, Mr.Arben Gjuraj. In her speech Mrs.OlijanaIfti praised the commitment of farmers in piloting such experience which will be very valuable for many other farmers in the country. Referring to the objectives of the national waste management strategy, Mrs.Ifti considered composting as one of the safest ways to reduce significantly especially in the rural areas the quantities of waste to be treated, service costs and environmental impact.
In his speech Mr.Gjuraj focused mostly on the importance for the commune of promoting composting not only as a way to increase the quality of service, but also for the image and its finances. Application of a tariff model based on the principle “polluter pays” will enable to incentivize those families who apply composting.
