Shkodra municipality in collaboration with Educational Directory of Shkodra and supported by Programme for Local Development and Decentralization (dldp) has organised in the Hall of Sports “Qazim Dervishi” in Shkodra the Finals for “Recycling championship”, held on Tuesday, 03.06.2014, where have participated Shkodra city schools. In the frame of the campaign for “Shkodra recycles!”, all secondary and high schools of Shkodra city were involved in the campaign for collection and selling the recyclable waste. The schools that collected the minimum quantity of recyclable waste had the right to participate in the championship. The competition between 40 teams from 24 schools has been held during May followed with emotion and show. These schools acting under the logo of “Shkodra Recycles! Who recycles only wins!”, have not only awareness the pupils, teachers and parents for a cleaner city but also through the quantity of collected recyclable waste which has been vended to the collection sites, made possible earning considerable amount of money to be use the needs of their schools.
During all May over more than 9000 pupils of these schools besides awareness activities have undertaken real action by collecting the recyclable waste and selling them in two collection sites opened in the city.
These schools have collected till 31st of May a total of 4901 kg recyclable waste, which has been sold to the collection sites and so made possible that these schools earn the amount of 23 920 ALL.
The finals were held between schools “Kolë Idromeno” – “Kolë Margjini” (for the high schools); “Skënderbeg”- Austrian School “Peter Mahringer” (classes 7-9) and “Ismail Qemali” – “Ali Laçej” (classes 5-6), which gave a lot of emotions and spectacle show. The winning schools were “Kolë Idromeno”, “Skënderbeg” and “Ali Laçej”.
These schools promoted initiatives for an European Shkodra, for a more pragmatist city, that from the waste seek to mobilise funds for the city and for people in need therefore they deserve more than moral encourage. To support them the Programme for Local Development and Decentralisation, Shkodra Municipality and Educational Directory have enabled for the winners of the finals awards that will be transferred directly to the winning schools accounts.
The campaign “Shkodra recycles” is being continued successfully in Shkodra city. In the collection sites have been vended up to now from the citizens around 14 ton of recyclable waste such as cardboard, plastics PET, or aluminium (from cans).
