
Representatives of 12 dldp partner municipalities and communes attended the first workshop organized by dldp in the frame of “Technical support for waste management.” The event was held in Shkodra on May 11th, 2012. Representatives of the Institution of the Shkodra’s Prefect, Regional Council and the Regional Environmental Agency Shkoder, also participated in this event. This workshop is the first of a long list of the activities planned by dldp for this activity line. The assistance will be provided as a combination of theoretical inputs and direct on the job assistance (coaching). Four workshops are scheduled to be accompanied by an extensive support through field work. Implementation of already approved waste management plans; waste collection, transportation and treatment schemes; funding investments and their maintainance; funding the operational cost of the services, revenues and fees collection; regulatory framework, standards, monitoring and correction of the system; information and communication with the citizens are topics that will be tackled during this intensive support. The main focus of all dldp package support in waste management is to reduce service delivery costs.
The high level of participation and engagement in discussions and working groups clearly show the motivation of local governments to improve waste management service.
