Solid Waste Management Plan for Koplik municipality discussed with the citizens

Koplik Municipality and Decentralization and Local Development Programme (dldp) organized on 24 November 2011, an consultative meeting with stakeholders the plan for solid waste management. Participated in this meeting the municipal working group led by Mayor Mr.Ramadan Likaj, members of Municipal Council, the regional environmental agency, representatives from other institutions, business organizations etc.
Objective of this meeting was the presentation of the main findings of the plan for solid waste management for the years 2012-2016, starting from organization of  the service, cost and fee calculation, service perspectives and expectations of citizens.
The novelty of this plan is to increase the quality of service providing efficient and effective services, expansion of service, the introduction of new schemes for differentiated waste collection, creating an improved financial system (local budget, the necessary investments, cost recovery), prevention of pollution from other waste generation, reduction of illegal waste deposits, voluminous waste and hazardous waste (as well as medical ), awareness of the community and businesses to become part of municipal initiatives for keeping the city clean, etc.
Speakers addressed the commitment of the Koplik Municipality and technical experts to develop such a strategic document which directs the municipal administration towards the implementation of its vision for a clean city with an healthy environment and stable economic development.
Finding and licensing by the Ministry of Environment of a suitable landfill  within Malësia e Madhe district (near Pjetroshan), the possibilities of the municipality and citizens to financially cope with increasing service standards, minimization of waste through recycling and composting were some of the main points discussed.
Solid Waste Management Plan of Koplik will be presented and approved by City Council at its next meeting in order that starting from 2012, the Koplik Municipality can implement strategic orientations defined in this plan.
