Commune of Guri I Zi has already successfully implemented the grant fund on ”construction of the commendation holes for Guri I Zi water supply system in Guri i Zi Commune”

The infrastructure of the drinking water supply for the inhabitants of Guri i Zi village is functional.

The infrastructure of drinking water supply for the inhabitants of Gur i Zi village of the Gur i Zi commune has noticeably improved with the conclusion of this project. 103 water manholes were established on standard basis, 515 meters (for each hole and for each exit). The drinking water supply time for the benefiters has increased from 2 hours to 4 hours. Based on existing contract, it was made possible that benefiters be supplied 4 hours per day; 693 families with 2624 inhabitants of the Gur i Zi village can directly benefit from the improved water supply infrastructure. 1338 of the inhabitants are girls and women. As regards the companies, 45 small companies and 3 big enterprises from Gur i Zi, as well as four public institutions (including 650 students of the High School of Gur i Zi can directly benefit from the improved water supply infrastructure. Apart from these, 30 vary small enterprises profited from this project. These enterprises, run by women, deal with traditional artisanal products, such as fabric weaving, which ensures 70% of the annual revenues of these families. The quality of drinking water supplied to the inhabitants has noticeably improved as a result of the improvement of this infrastructure.

The revenues from the service tariffs are expected to rise, contributing to the cost coverage

A contract model of supply service of drinking water has been prepared, which is expected to be approved and applied with the constituting of the new communal council. The commune can cover 80% of the cost, which is made possible by the improvements in the infrastructure of the drinking water supply and the application of the new tariffs on water supply service. This will be carried out based on an expected increase of 80% of the revenues from the tariffs and the number increase of contracts with the inhabitants by 30%.

The community’s awareness has increased regarding the public service of water supply and the need for efficient use of drinking water.

The activities organised by the commune on community awareness regarding the water supply service and efficient water use, either before the project or during its implementation, have influenced on the knowledge and information of the inhabitants on the project, the improvement that will affect the infrastructure of drinking water supply and the quality/time of drinking water at their houses. Their inclusion in the fulfilment of this project was crucial for its successful implementation. The project has come as a continuous request form the community. As a consequence, the community has always been included in all the stages, from its definition as a priority for the commune for 2011, the development of the project idea and project proposal, the cooperation with the commune and the implementing company during the identification of spots and the placement of the manholes, as well as during the disconnection of old connections and the connection of new ones and the provision with new meters. The community members are aware about the need for careful use of drinking water and maintenance of the network.

 

Project Management

The project management was carried out in a fair and functional interrelation of the staff role of Gur i Zi Commune, the implementing company, IC staff and the community. This has very positively influenced on the full realisation of the project. The project defined clear division of duties, with concrete actions and activities at all stages of compilation, implementation, and management of the project.
The experience gained from previous cooperation with IC in relation to previous projects was another positive factor that has positively influenced on the good performance of the project.
Above all, it is worth mentioning the community’s active role in following all the work processes, by being an active part in the planning of the working process, measuring, and identification of spots up to quality control of workings and the application of technical measures.
