In the framework of dldp activities in Shkodra, the 2nd meeting of the experts group took place on waste management. Representatives from the municipalities of Shkodra, Koplik, Puke, Rubik, Rreshen and Vau i Dejes as well as from the communes of Milot, Rrethina, Orosh and Postribe were present at this meeting.

This experts’ group of dldp partner LGU-s will be systematically assisted in increasing technical capacities in the whole cycle of waste management starting from waste collection up to their treatment in dumpsites or landfill.
The meeting “Planning the services of waste collection and transport”, opened the series of thematic activities on waste management. It was focused mainly on practical aspects of service planning as setting out the composition and the waste generation rate, collection of different waste streams, the calculation of the number of containers linked with the demographic changes, and extension of the service or necessary infrastructure for a transfer station.
Selection of schemes for waste collection and effective routes (direct transport or transfer station) was explained through case studies applied in some LGUs.
Through practical exercises, the LGUs’ representatives were trained regarding the calculation of waste generation rates, needs for technological equipment and human resources in order to provide a qualitative waste collection service.
The next meeting of this group will be held on 25th March 2011.
